XR Defect Viewer
Umajin provides a powerful platform to create truly useful manufacturing Digital twin solutions. To be valuable, this digital twin integrates real-time production data, 3D CAD data, and machine vision. The Umajin XR Defect Viewer allows the user to see defects and production data overlaid on the real item being manufactured using a smartphone or XR headset. Defects are precisely spatially mapped to avoid the need for a human to search for the fault and instead they can focus on remediating the issues with other important production data alongside to help with decision making.
Revolutionizing fault detection in manufacturing
Defect Capture and Spatial Mapping
A machine vision camera captures surface defects in a 2D plane (e.g. an image). This image then needs to be spatially mapped onto the item being manufactured. The defects X and Y position is known from the image, it is then projected onto the CAD data so the final position, size and location of the defect can be established.
Integration with CAD and Production systems
Importing 3D representations of items being manufactured means talking to many different types of enterprise manufacturing systems. Nvidia Omniverse provides tools and a file format called OpenUSD. This allows the Umajin Platform to have a standard way of interacting with all of these different systems.
Immersive XR Visualization
XR Headsets, smartphones, and tablets can be used to visualize the 3D position of a defect, overlaid on the items that are being manufactured. The type of device used varies on the process and user requirements. Devices use onboard cameras to recognize the item’s position and orientation, ensuring accurate alignment of digital overlays with the real object.
Why Umajin XR?
- Improved quality and reduce cost: by supporting defect visualisation it is possible to move to fully automated defect inspection
- Increased efficiency: Reduce the time taken to remediate faults and perform maintenance
- Better Remediation: Based on defect data and production data, calculations to determine the best approach to remediation can be automatically presented to the user
